Inadequate staffing is often a cause
In our lawyers' experience, there are far too many nursing home facilities that are run by off-site corporate directors who will sacrifice safety for the sake of profit margins. From their cushy corporate offices, they order reduction of staff and resources in order to reduce overhead expenses and keep more of the income from the facility as profit, rather than use it for the benefit of the residents as intended. "Cut costs," they demand, without conscience or regard for consequences.
"Do Justice." — Micah 6:8
We stand up for injured nursing home residents and their families
Our Christian values influence our law practice in that we take seriously our responsibility to use our talents and skills to help vulnerable people who have been abused and neglected in nursing homes. Our experience and knowledge enable us to recognize and pinpoint causes of injury and preventable illness or death in a long-term care facility.
Warning signs in nursing home care
Perhaps you have not yet placed your elderly family member in a care facility, or your mother, father, wife, husband, grandmother, grandfather, aunt or uncle is already in a nursing home but still healthy. In either case, we encourage you to watch out for the following warning signs that neglect may be occurring at a given care facility:
- Does staff fail to respond to calls for help from residents or their family members?
- Does staff fail to turn patients on a regular basis?
- Are residents habitually soiled?
- Is there evidence of dehydration, weight loss, bedsores or skin ulcers among residents?
- Have you seen or heard of falls or unexplained cuts or bruises?
- Is there a history of elopement (wandering off) by residents of the facility?
- If your family member is already in residence, has he or she had a urinary tract infection?
